About Me.

Hi. I'm Richard Small. I'm a London-based Designer and Creative Director, responsible for the visual communication of one of the world's leading technology companies.
I joined Sony in 2008 as a designer and have grown within the company to my current position of Senior Art Director in the Sony Design team. Whilst based in Europe, I work within our extended studios and teams in Japan, USA and other regions. I am accountable for a team of designers, with responsibilities covering every aspect of the brand’s communications, marketing and product positioning.
I work both globally and locally in a range of disciplines ranging from advertising campaigns and corporate level branding right through to packaging design, marketing communications and retail activation. I have been fortunate to collaborate with many leading design and advertising agencies and production companies.
My experience in multiple design disciplines has led to a broad range of expertise that is constantly in demand throughout all areas of Sony's diverse company structure.
I have been privileged to be able to represent the brand and been invited to speak about my work at several of the UK & Europe's biggest design and branding events and festivals. I have also had the opportunity to give guest lectures at various Universities.
I graduated from The University of Reading with a degree in Typography & Graphic Communication. My time there gave me a great appreciation for the importance of typography in design and set me up for my work in branding and communications. The course introduced me to the history of design and ignited a passion for detailed design, print production, brand communication and letterpress printing – I can often be found ‘slow printing’ and covered in ink in my spare time.
